About The Photoguy : I am many things to many people. I am Dad to 4. I am Pop to 7 (soon to be 8). I am the “significant other” to 1. I am “the ex” to 2. And I am the master to one crazy German Shepherd.

I have lived in a very large city and on a farm outside a small rural town. Yes, I’m a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll. These days, I live in a little beach town on a small island in Northeast Florida, and I am very happy to be here. It’s a place that I truly feel at home and may be the place where I was always meant to be. For a beach bum like me, nothing beats living less than 5 minutes from the beach.

I do many things, and I have done many things over the course of my life. I am a photographer, but I have also been a printer, a police dog trainer, a farmer, a small business owner, a 911 and police dispatcher, a plastic tool maker, a DJ, a roadie, an amusement ride operator, and so much more. These are things I have done, not who I am. But I always try to be damn good at whatever I do.

What I do mostly is take lots of pictures. Always have. And I do my best to be better at it today than I was yesterday. If I don’t have a camera with me, the universe seems somehow out of kilter. I’ve been doing this since I was quite young. And people…not only my mom…think I’m pretty darn good at it. I’m sure you will too. I shoot using both Nikon digital and Mamiya medium format film cameras.

I'm an amateur and I always will be, because the word actually means someone that does what they do and tries to excel at it because they love it. Like Michael Phelps or Carl Lewis. It's a good thing to be an amateur. Making money and doing this professionally are important to me, but that's not the reason I do it. I do this because I love it and I want to become a very experienced photography amateur until the day I die.

I specialize in candid shots of people. An art school professor once told me that I have a special way of capturing people. Who am I to argue with her? Actually, I think she was right.

Concert & band photography is my passion. The combination of photography and live music is just so natural for me as they are both such a big part of my life. I went to my first concert when I was 12; it was The Grateful Dead at the Spectrum in Philly and they played for 5 hours. I’ll never forget it. I spent most of my teen years and beyond going to as many concerts as I could, sometimes 3 or 4 in a week. I’ve seen most every artist of the 70’s, a lot of them several times. These days, I get out to probably one live performance a week, sometimes quite a few more. I Shoot Musicians and I make people look like Rock Stars. I love to capture the moment when a performer shows their spirit and personality. It’s like magic. Capturing that energy and emotion is what it’s all about for me.

My photographs are about the subject, not about me or my “style”. The way I see things comes across in my photos and makes them unique, but it is not what my shots are about.

You can check out my work here or you can also look for PhotoGuy of Amelia Island on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter or Flickr. Please become a friend or a fan or a follower or whatever.

Feel free to comment on anything I’ve done. I welcome your thoughts and input.

I am also available for all types of photography, including events, candid portraits, small or casual weddings, engagements, commercial, real estate, and anything else you may want to capture in pictures. And I have top notch equipment that assures great results. While I take most of my photos in the Northeast Florida area, I can be easily convinced to travel to your favorite location to give you the results you desire. Have Camera, Will Travel. Depending on your budget, I can give you digital files or professionally produced photographic prints or albums. You can contact me at fran@photoguyofai.com.

A few words about pricing. I do a lot of work for charity, but you're not a charity are you? While my prices are very reasonable, please don't ask me to do what I do for free or for what Uncle Charlie would charge you. I have put a lot of time, money, study and experience into what I do. It's more than just pushing a button. That list of equipment down there didn't come cheap. Like in any other business, you may be able to get it cheaper, but that doesn't mean that it will be better. You wouldn't tell the plumber or the mechanic or the grocery store or your favorite restaurant or just about any other business that you'd like them to give you what you want, but only for the money you want to pay. I know I can't! If you like the quality of my work, then accept that I will charge you for it. If you don't want to pay for what you get, I'm sure you can find someone that will give you something for that price. The question is, will it be the quality that you want?

The bottom line then is if you need really good photos for whatever reason, please contact me. You’ll be so glad you did.
